UCT S2E12: Giving Our Lives Away
Monday Mar 29, 2021
Monday Mar 29, 2021
In Christianity, we focus a lot on the moment we first met Jesus. We also look forward to eternal life after we die. But when it comes to our lives on earth, here and now, what’s the purpose?
If we take Jesus’ life as an example, it would seem pretty radical. Jesus came to lay His life down as a ransom for many. Have we missed that in Western Christianity? Are we believing in a comfortable, American-dream Jesus instead of Jesus on the cross?

UCT S2E13: Listener Questions Answered
Monday Apr 05, 2021
Monday Apr 05, 2021
In the finale of our series on the main teaching points of The Father’s House Church, we’re wrapping up by answering some listener questions. One of the reasons Steve & Vicki’s podcast is called the Uncommon Truth is because it’s really hard to find any other ministry with this combination of teachings and values. It’s just as uncommon to find ministries with such a long record of success in personal and community transformation.
Naturally, people have questions, so today we’re answering questions about Steve & Vicki’s understanding of hell, how to determine who you should follow, and why The Father’s House has so many pastors.

UCT S2E14: Which Jesus Are We Following? with Pastor Tony Kim
Monday Apr 12, 2021
Monday Apr 12, 2021
Pastor Tony Kim joined the Uncommon Truth after spending time guest speaking at the School of Transformation. Tony and his wife Jessica are the leaders at Renaissance church in Bakersfield, California. Tony is the US National Director at Harvest International Ministry (HIM) and the founder and leader of Roar Collective and Roar Academy.
The Kim’s journey to Bakersfield mirrors Steve and Vicki’s in many ways. Bakersfield, like Oroville, has a notorious reputation for poverty, crime and hopelessness. For the past two decades, however, God has been using Tony & Jessica’s “yes” to transform the city, and the impact has been worldwide. In this episode, Tony shares some stories about following Jesus through some incredible circumstances. He asks the question, “If we’re not risking anything, are we following the right Jesus?”

UCT S2E15: More Listener Questions Answered
Monday Apr 19, 2021
Monday Apr 19, 2021
In our final episode of our series on the foundations of The Father’s House Church––which definitely embody some uncommon truths––we’re finishing off by answering some of your listener questions. We started out doing just that a couple weeks ago, but we got so many good questions, we couldn’t resist having one more discussion about them.
How we’re supposed to take care of our families while giving our lives away following Jesus? Does Jesus really expects us to be perfect like our Heavenly Father is? Why does God give authority to leaders who fail and fall? If you’ve ever thought about any of those questions, this episode is for you.

UCT S2E16: Finding Freedom in Christ with Murray & Ash Smith
Monday Apr 26, 2021
Monday Apr 26, 2021
In this episode we’re joined by Murray and Ash Smith, lead pastors at Catch The Fire in Raleigh-Durham North Carolina. The Smiths joined The Uncommon Truth as part of their visit to Oroville where they were guest teaching at the School of Transformation. Murray and Ash have a passion for the Holy Spirit and love to help lead people into the freedom of who Jesus created them to be.
Freedom is one of the big selling points of a life spent following Jesus. In Galatians, Paul writes, “It is for freedom the Christ has set us free.” So what is this freedom, and how do we experience it in real life?
We often think that when we accept Jesus and choose to follow Him, we’re set free from everything that has ever held us back in an instant. But is that what scripture teaches? What about the baggage of our past experiences? What happens to the pain, unforgiveness and ungodly beliefs if we bring with us? If you could use even an ounce more freedom in your life, you won’t want to miss Murray and Ash Smith on The Uncommon Truth.

UCT S3E1: The Kingdom of Heaven is Like...?
Monday May 03, 2021
Monday May 03, 2021
The parables of Jesus are some of the most memorable and often-quoted passages of His teachings. It was very common for Jesus to express some of the most critical concepts using simple stories and examples. But do we always get the point?
This week’s episode kicks off Season Three, in which we dive a little deeper into some of Jesus’ most memorable, and sometimes confusing, parables. The one thing all these stories have in common is the phrase, “The kingdom of God is like…” The implication is clear: if Jesus wants us tell us about His kingdom, shouldn’t we pay attention?
Today, Steve & Vicki tackle a couple of smaller parables from Matthew 13. What’s the significance of the kingdom being like, “Buried treasure,” or “a merchant in search of fine pearls?”

UCT S3E2: Love Does with Pastor Joe Wittwer
Monday May 10, 2021
Monday May 10, 2021
In a very special episode, we’re joined by special guest Joe Wittwer, founding pastor of Life Center Church in Spokane, Washington. Pastor Joe holds the distinction of being Steve & Vicki’s pastor; Joe officiated the Orisillo’s wedding and helped set them on course to love and serve Jesus with their lives.
In this episode we’ll hear some eye-opening stories about Steve & Vicki from back-in-the-day, and continue our discussion on the parables of Jesus. What can Jesus’ parable about the sheep and goats tell us about the subject of love? Is there more to love than just the feeling?

UCT S3E3: Workers in the Master's Vineyard
Monday May 17, 2021
Monday May 17, 2021
What is the kingdom of heaven like? When we talk about it, are we talking about eternal life after death, our spiritual lives now, or the coming age when Jesus returns? In Season 3, we’re looking at Jesus’ parables to find the answers.
In Jesus’ parable from Matthew 20, the master of a vineyard goes out to hire laborers to work for the day. Some work all day, while others only work the last hour, yet all receive equal pay. What does this tell us about the kingdom of heaven?

UCT S3E4: Big Things from Small Beginnings
Monday May 24, 2021
Monday May 24, 2021
Most of us have heard Jesus’ parable of the mustard seed; something small turns into something big and spectacular. But is that all there is to the story? What the parable of the tiny mote of yeast that leavens the whole lump of dough?
Even though these are short parables about small things, the implications are far from insignificant. If it’s true that the kingdom of heaven can be compared to such things, what can we learn about it?

UCT S3E5: Becoming Children of the King
Monday May 31, 2021
Monday May 31, 2021
This week’s show continues on the theme of the small things in the Kingdom of Heaven. This time we’re discussing Jesus’ proclamation that only those who become like little children will be admitted into the Kingdom. What does that mean, and how do we accomplish it?
As believers and followers of Jesus, how do we strike the balance between complete child-like dependence on God and growing up to represent Him? What is it about a kid’s humility, trust, kindness and openness that Jesus wants us to resemble? Join us as we break down the upside-down nature of the Kingdom and what it looks like in life today.
